Studio Classes

Santa Fe Dog is a clean, comfortable, climate controlled 1900 sq ft. space located at 1807 Second Street, Ste #42, Santa Fe, NM 87505.

All classes except the sports field classes are held at the Second Street location above.

Studio Directions-Turn off Second St. in front of Cloud 5 and drive down the row until you see a parking lot on the left. Look for the Santa Fe Dog signage on the walls on the left. Plenty of parking. Easy to find.

2018 Current Classes:

Rally-Obedience Class 1.9 :New Novice Courses (1-36)+ New Rally Signs (37-43)- Subsequent classes in this time slot will include Intermediate/Advanced (101-123) maneuvers. Due to the new material, this is not considered a drop in class, but a ongoing advanced skills- -pay by the month series. Registration preference is given to up to 6 handlers able to attend entire class series.  We have new material and new courses to learn! Travelers (+$5/session)will be allowed on a case by case basis. FULL!

Travelers may also be interested in a existing Thursday evening (drop in) working dog group at 6:45 pm at LDDC, contact me and I will send you details and contact info. 

Prerequisite: Dog must be generally friendly and controlled in lobby area. Handlers are expected to work dogs in the lobby area as needed to maintain relative calm.

Cost: Feb 6-Feb 27=$144 inc. tax.  March 6-27 =$144 inc. tax. April 3-24=$144

Rally-O Intro 1.2

 Have you taken a level 1 and 2 class a couple of times?  Expand your tool box of problem solving skills, develop a common “language” for you and your dog. Humans and their canines will learn to recognize the benefits of quicker Attention/Focus, Faster Sits & Downs, Create a Standing wait, Back up, On/Off, Sitting for Polite Greetings, How to quickly install a new cue, The “Chill Out” position,  Rally O leash walking maneuvers #1-36, and  explore the positively trained  “Leave it” and Engage/Disengage” etc. This is not a drop in class. It is a pay by the month class.

Prerequisite: Arrange a private 10 minute audition or have taken at least 2 obedience type classes with your dog.  Dogs should be generally friendly with people and dogs, but we don’t mind a bit of loud spirit. Questions?  Contact me ! FULL!

Rally-O 1.0  Class 

Novice Leash handling for absolute beginners and Dogs using Rally Obedience patterns to give you both a more pleasant walking experience. Dogs and handlers will begin to  learn how to engage and disengage from distractions in the environment in a fun and positive manner.

Prerequisite: Dog and handler must have completed 2 basic classes together. First session is a orientation with out your dog.  Limit 6 teams. I suggest you take 8-12 sessions, but you can  just pay by the monthly series to check it out. This is not a drop in class. FULL!

Cost: March 3,10, 17, (skip 24) 31=$144, April 7-28=$144, May 5-26=$144

Agility Level 1 – Tiny Dog Agility (DATE-TBD)

A tiny dog indoor fun class using  ground work exercises and agility obstacles.  Build confidence and learn a handling system your dog can really understand. Suitable for all tiny dog handlers interested in recreational agility.   Learn what is necessary to belong to a Tiny Dog agility group. Have some new fun and further develop a common language between you and your dog.  Learn Stay, Back up, Heel on the right and the left,  Stand,  2 on-2 off Contacts, Jumps, Tunnels  and Teeter games. Food and Toys are used as reinforcers.  We don’t say no…We say YES!  Dogs should be generally friendly with people and dogs, but we don’t mind a little spirit!

Prerequisite: Maximum 10 inches at the shoulder. 15 lbs or less.  Dog should be able to generally come when called amid distractions, Ability to Focus on handler will make for a more pleasant handler experience.   Activity Level for Dogs and handlers: Moderate

Class size is limited to 6 Tiny dog/handler teams.

Foundation Skills 2.0 – (Date/Time TBD)

Learn better use of  motivational training to create a tool box of problem solving skills, and develop a common language for you and your dog. Dog will learn to recognize the benefits of Attention/Focus, Back up, Wait/Stay, On/Off, More Targeting, Come when called, Intro to ground work and platform work. Off leash heel on the right and the left. Puppy Zen and Leave it. Humans will learn how to get the Dogs Attention and keep it and when/how to properly install a cue. Intensive, but fun class, suitable as a individualized  and ongoing training “Lab” for YOU, and your new dog or your established dog. 

Prerequisite: Teams should have completed three previous obedience classes  with their dog or have worked privately with a professional instructor. Handler should be able to cue a sit and a down, or a stand and demonstrate simple targeting.

Class size is limited to 6 dog/handler teams. First class is a required working orientation on cueing and the dogs will NOT attend.

Agility Level 1-(Date/Time- TBD)

A  recreational indoor class using  ground work exercises and agility obstacles.  Build confidence and learn a handling system your dog can really understand. Suitable for all  dog handlers interested in Dog sports. Building control and having fun with your dog while preparing for Agility is the purpose of this class. Learn what is necessary to belong to a agility group. Have some new fun. Learn Back up, Heel on the right and the left, Stay, Stand,  2 on-2 off Contacts, Tunnels and hoops, Teeter games. Food and Toys are used as reinforcers.  We don’t say no…We say YES!  Dogs should be generally friendly with people and dogs.

Prerequisite:  Dog should be able to generally come when called amid distractions. Ability to focus on handler amid some distractions will make for a more pleasant handler experience. Focus and name response can be learned in other Foundation classes… See Foundation and Foundation 2 if your dog can not come when called.   If you have a friendly but leash reactive dog, see the Sports Field Classes or call me for private consultation.

A non-impact indoor class designed for fun and mental enrichment and fitness conditioning, using  Rally Obedience Signs, and Agility obstacles.  Suitable for the shy dog, mobility challenged dog, older dog or differently abled dog.  Build confidence and learn a handling system your dog can understand. Have some new fun. Back up, Heel on the right and the left,  Send outs, Stand, Down, Targeting, Hoops and Tunnels and Rockers.  This non impact class is for older dogs, mobility challenged dogs…or shy dogs and their people…shy or not! A NO PRESSURE, Just  ALL FUN class.

Dogs and people should be generally good with people and other dogs.  We won’t mind a bit of excitement or a shy dog…or a handler that could use some confidence building. If you have questions about the suitability of this class for  you or your dog, please call to discuss!

Prerequisite: Dog should be comfortable on leash and come when called… generally…smile!

Class size is limited to 5  dog/handler teams.
